Practice Makes Perfect!

Ten minutes a day, is the way we learn to play....

Most of the members of the senior band started learning to play at a very young age, just like you. Being a good band member requires training (like an athlete) and a commitment to practice the music. Having a routine to do this will help and being organised means you can complete your practice quickly so you don't become bored.

Like all good athletes here's a 10 minute practice plan for you to try, let us know how you get on with it. If you want a bit more there's an "Extra Credit" section at the bottom!

* Warm Up (30 secs)

    - Take big breaths and blow gently through the instrument for 10 secs without stopping (repeat 3 times)

* Scales (3 Minutes)

    - Practice Scales in the following order ( C, F, G, Bb, D)
    - Play each one twice
    - Don't forget your flats and sharps! (Use your fingering chart if you get stuck)

* Mini March (6 minutes)

    - Practice each of the Mini March pieces in turn
    - Play each one twice

Well done!

If this took you longer than 10 minutes only play each thing once until you get quick enough,

* Extra Credit (5 minutes)

    - Pick one of the following pieces of music and play it through twice

    - Sister Act, Northern Festival March, Curtain Up, Eastenders
