Jim Wortley Musical Director Jim, joined the band in 2010 after retiring  as head of brass, wind, percussion and the  pipe band at Eton College, a post he held  for 23 years. Jim started playing cornet at  the age of eight. At 15 he swapped to  trombone and played with the National  Youth Orchestra and the Leicestershire  Schools Symphony Orchestra.  While studying trombone at the Royal Manchester School of Music he freelanced with the Halle and Royal Liverpool orchestras. When he was 18 he joined the BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra in Glasgow and then moved to London to join the Gabrielli Brass Ensemble. He also freelanced, playing over 400 concerts a year, plus TV and film music.  In 1975 Jim married violinist Alison and they moved to Glasgow where she joined the BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra and Jim the BBC Scottish Radio Orchestra. In 1983 he joined Eton College.
